Change Doesn’t Have to Be So Hard | Fearless Mind
I'm very lucky in the job that I do. I get to meet people from all different walks of life, struggling with all different kinds of problems every day of the week.
Whilst a lot of the work I do with people is anxiety relief due to the nature of some of the issues I've had in life, I also find myself working regularly with people who want to lose weight, stop smoking, stop drinking, stop using drugs like cocaine, or build confidence and drive in life.
One of the things that I notice surprises people is the speed at which they are able to make changes using hypnosis.
This is something I experienced in life also. When I worked with a hypnotherapist, I'd been struggling with anxiety for a decade, and I'd stopped playing and performing music for around about 5 years due to extreme performance anxiety.
Within 6 months of working with a hypnotherapist, I had left a 20-year career, retrained as a hypnotherapist, started seeing paying clients, won every competition I played in, and become a Scottish champion. Again, something I never thought I would achieve after a prolonged absence from performing.
Traditional therapy models often have clients working with a therapist week after week, month after month, and this can even run into years.
I often say to the people I work with that I hope I never see them again after our sessions finish, and I don't mean that in a bad way. My aim is to build understanding and capacity in the people I work with, so that weeks, months, and years after working with me, when the challenges of life occur, they are well equipped to overcome them.
I worked with somebody this week who expressed complete surprise at the change in his life after just one session with me. Sometimes it can be difficult to understand how we can hold on to issues for so long, only to find that we can resolve them way quicker than we think.
I guess the lesson from this story is change doesn't have to be as difficult as we think it will be.
Sometimes the idea of change being difficult is a limiting belief in itself.
If we walk around in life believing that change is going to be difficult or impossible, then it can become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
I've been listening to an audiobook this week that talks about anxiety, and apparently, newer scientists say that we have between 70,000 and 80,000 thoughts every day. Around about 70% of those thoughts are negative.
Just imagine how your life would be if you're able to find a way to turn those thoughts into more positive, healthy, and helpful thoughts.
